It is common for most students to limit their choice of professional school on the basis of the averages mentioned. But then, a slightly lower or higher SAT, GRE or GMAT score does not really determine all.
The best institutions understand this, and will never limit their selection of the right candidate to the scores notched in these tests.
Besides, there may be other outstanding qualities that make you, as an individual, stand out. Never underestimate yourself, and never leave out those non-academic achievements merely because you never thought them to be great enough. If you have been white- water rafting during your summer holidays, or aero-gliding all over the place, mention them in your application. An adventure sports enthusiast, a classical music expert, or an amateur sculptor on the campus is what universities prize a lot. Honors notched at art competitions, music soirees, athletics or cross-country rallies mean a lot in your favor. These can make the selection committee see you in a new light, notwithstanding your low SAT scores.
Every school states a certain score in its brochure. But these are only averages. So do not go by them.
If a school is offering the exact combinations you always dreamed of taking up, do not abandon the idea of applying there merely because your scores do not match up. Be bold, and take a chance. You will probably succeed, provided you do not underestimate yourself, and can communicate loud and clear about your goals in life.
At the same time, do not assume that a professional school is not up to the mark merely because the scores quoted are lower than other schools of the same ilk. If the facilities being offered and the location are exactly up your sleeve, go for it. Chances are, you will neither be disappointed nor shall find the company you keep on the campus less intelligent than you are. There will be many others with very good academic averages who may have opted for the institution because of the facilities offered or the co-curricular activities matching up to their higher aspirations.
So do not let those numbers baulk you…..never at all!!
