If you have taken the old SAT, taking the new SAT may or may not be necessary. This will, of course, depend on the colleges you intend to apply to. However, for students graduating from high school in 2006, the new SAT may be called for.
• A major departure from the old SAT is the addition of a writing section in the new SAT. Besides, quantitative comparisons in Mathematics have been eliminated. But the test will still measure the reasoning ability, and problem solving skills of the individual .The total testing time will now be 3 hours and 45 minutes. As regards the fees, the SAT reasoning fee to be paid is $ 41.50. As with the old SAT, students who cannot afford the test fees can request for a fee waiver to cover test fees.
• The SAT scores come as 3 scores in the range of 200-800 each for writing, mathematics and critical reading.
• All students can access their free detailed online score report via collgeboard.com. For certain test dates, students can access their essays using the Question and Answer Service (QAS) for a fee. QAS can show actual questions and correct answers, as also levels of difficulty in answering them.
• For all other test dates, the Students Answering Service (SAS) is there or accessing the performance in the test. However, SAS does not provide actual questions.
• All in all, there is not much difference in the old and new SATs in the way they are tailored to assess the student's intelligence and reasoning abilities when going in for advanced study.
• Only, a certain level of preparation is essential for a student who plans to go in for the SAT. This is where we come in.
