  CATEGORIES OF STUDENT VISA

With a student visa (A-7 visa) you are able to study in a Costa Rican School or University for a year. Upon expiration this visa can be renewed for another year so as to continue your studies. It takes between 90 and 180 business days to process your visa request and to issue a reply.

The problem is that consulates of Costa Rica do not issue student visas. It is best to apply for a tourist visa (Visa B1) at your nearest consulate of Costa Rica . You must then adjust your non-immigrant visa status to obtain a student visa at the Immigration Department. This should be done within the first 30 days of your stay in Costa Rica upon enrollment at an educational institution accredited by the Immigration Department of Costa Rica.
