What is TOEFL?
The purpose of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test is to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. The TOEFL iBT (Internet based test) is the newest version of ETS's English proficiency test designed to assess English-language skills in academic settings. Launched in the United States in Sept 2005, ETS has made several changes, with the aim of making TOEFL, a more accurate gauge of English skills. It was introduced in India in April 2006 where Indian students arrived at testing centers and other educational institutions across India to take the first Internet-based version of the TOEFL-iBT.
For the first time, the TOEFL test integrates all four components of language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking, to help learners build the skills and confidence needed to communicate effectively in academic environments. The new TOEFL is delivered via the Internet, making it more accessible to candidates.
